He was a highly-skilled cartoonist and quality sketch artist for the Pittsburg Dispatch. He also worked for the Denver Republican as a reporter and writer, returning to Youngstown in 1895, to focus on writing fiction stories based on his experiences. Many of his stories were published in leading magazines throughout the country, such as Colliers and The American Magazine, which garnered him national attention as a writer.

Previous owner’s book plates in each volume, otherwise excellent condition. Each volume stamped at bottom of title page “Library of Willard Rouse Jillson Frankfort, Kentucky,” noted early KY author and historian. We believe this to be a rare first edition.

Lifetime portfolio of works by Ceylon E. Hollingsworth, 1869-1949, nationally known writer and artist, native of Youngstown, OH. Wonderful offering of approximately 150 detailed pen & ink drawings, skillful watercolors, and pencil sketches covering a wide range of themes and subjects including Political Cartoons, Civil War Battle Scenes, Western Subjects, African & Native American Themes, Photo of the Hollingsworth Home.… Offering includes published versions of editorial cartoons from The Youngstown Vindicator, Youngstown Telegram & The Pittsburg Dispatch.
Ceylon E. Hollingsworth, 1869-1949, nationally known writer and artist, native of Youngstown, Ohio. Hollingsworth opened the art department of Youngstown College in 1927 and taught a life class for many years at the Butler Art Institute. He was a highly-skilled cartoonist and quality sketch artist for the Pittsburg Dispatch. He also worked for the Denver Republican as a reporter and writer, returning to Youngstown in 1895, to focus on writing fiction stories based on his experiences. Many of his stories were published in leading magazines throughout the country, such as Colliers and The American Magazine, which garnered him national attention as a writer.
