An important American Impressionist who worked with Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Corot and Millet. His influence on Boston painters encouraged many to travel to France to study French Impressionism. Enneking was born in Minster, OH, and spent some time in Cincinnati.

Robert Atkinson Fox was a painter and commerical illustrator. Born in Canada, he studied in Canada and Europe before emigrating to America.

Wiegand was born in Germany and studied at the Royal Academies in Berlin and Dresden. He later studied in New York under William Merritt Chase. He was widely exhibited and awarded during his lifetime, including at the National Academy and the Corcoran Gallery.

William Ralph Watson painted in Old Lyme, Rockport and Gloucester. He is best known for snow scenes, and his works were exhibited in Chicago and New York.

Osthaus was born in Germany and studied at the Royal Academy in Dusseldorf. He moved to Ohio and became principal of the Toledo Academy of Fine Arts. He is a well-listed artist, known for landscapes, hunt scenes and dogs.

A member of the National Academy of Design, Coman was an influential tonalist painter who helped bring Barbizon style painting to America.

Karl Kappes studied in Cincinnati at the McMicken School of Design, in New York under William Merritt Chase, in Paris at the Academie Julien, and in Munich at the Royal Academy. Kappes was a successful painter of portraits and landscapes, an instructor, and he exhibited at the National Academy of Design and the Munich Royal Academy. He was the head of the art department at Weller Pottery from 1904 to 1920.

Cleveland born Edmund Brucker was a well-listed realist style portraitist, also known for landscapes in the Great Lakes area. He studied at the Cleveland School of Art, and he taught at the John Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis from 1938 until the early 1980s. His works are included in many university collections.

Jensen was a painter, teacher, and illustrator. He was a honorary life member of the Toledo Artists Club.

35. George Herbert Baker, IN, 1878-1943, Indiana landscape with pond, oil on board, 18" x 24", signed. 600-800

Baker was a well-known Indiana landscape painter, a member of the Richmond Group. He studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, and the Richmond Art Museum presented a retrospective exhibition of his works in 2001.

George Emerick studied marine painting with James Hamilton and Edward Moran. He worked primarily in watercolor, and focused on marine subjects. He exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts from 1876-1888. His works hung in several Atlantic City hotels, and many of his paintings are still in the Reading Public Museum and Art Gallery.

Sether was born in Norway, where he worked on ships travelling in the Arctic Circle, then studied painting under Fritz Thaulow. He emigrated to the United States in 1893, and eventually took up painting full time in the Chicago area. He is well-listed, known especially for snow and night scenes.
