Semen Guetski studied at the Kiev Art Institute from 1922-1929 and began exhibiting in 1937. He worked primarily in Kiev as both a painter and an animated film artist. Ballerinas were a favorite subject of his.

Waerhert studied animal painting in the tradition of Eugene Verboekhoven, and achieved considerable success in his lifetime.

A listed Spanish painter known for city scenes, racehorses, and genre.

172. Kathe Schmidt Kollwitz, Germany, 1867-1945, Mother holding infant, etching, 8" x 5", pencil signed. (1,000-1,500)

Kollwitz's art resounds with compassion for those suffering from poverty, disease and war. She documented the severe social conditions in Germany from the late 19th to mid 20th centuries. Despite Nazi oppression, she chose not to leave Germany during the war. She worked in a variety of media, and her auction listings are extensive.

Stacey was a painter of landscapes, genre, royalty & animals. Trewoofe is a historic farm in Cornwall on the garden tour, and a popular subject matter.

Endre Komaromi-Kacz studied at the Academy of Budapest and in Munich. He specialized in interior and genre scenes, but also painted landscapes. He has good auction records in both watercolor and oil.

Wex is a listed German artist w/strong results, known for landscapes and fishing scenes.

273. Julius Kohnholz, Germany, 1839-1925, Farm valley landscape, oil on board, 12" x 16", attribution w/unclear signature dated. (500-1,000)

Krohnholz was a popular German painter.

396. Paulus Pontius, Flemish, 1603-1658, Portrait of Pontius from a painting by Anthony van Dyck, etching, 9" x 6", marked Paulus du Pont Calcographus Antwerpiæ, Ant. van Dyck fecit aqua forti. (500-700)

Paulus Pontius (also known as Paulus du Pont) was an esteemed engraver. Dutch Master Peter Paul Rubens commissioned Pontius to reproduce many of his paintings, as did Anthony van Dyck. Pontius became a Master of the Antwerp Guild in 1626. This is from a series of portraits by van Dyck of famous painters and royalty.
