McCarthy was a student of Frank Duveneck.

391. Frances Wiley Faig, Cincinnati, 1885-1955, Lakeside landscape, oil on board, 12" x 16", signed. (200-400)

Faig was a student of Frank Duveneck and Charles Hawthorne. She painted murals in Cincinnati in the UC Engineering library, Cincinnati Women's Club, and in Hartwell and Western Hills high schools. She was a member of the Cincinnati Women's Art Club, Southern States Art League, and the McDowell Society.

Painter & miniaturist E.C. Trader was a student of Frank Duveneck, and exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Pennsylvania Academy.

394. Louis Oscar Griffith, IN & IL, 1875-1956, Woman working a loom, etching, 11½" x 8", pencil signed. (100-200)

Griffith studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Academy of Design, and the St. Louis School of Fine Art. He was a founding member of the Chicago Society of Etchers, and had numerous high profile exhibition entries and awards.

396. Paulus Pontius, Flemish, 1603-1658, Portrait of Pontius from a painting by Anthony van Dyck, etching, 9" x 6", marked Paulus du Pont Calcographus Antwerpiæ, Ant. van Dyck fecit aqua forti. (500-700)

Paulus Pontius (also known as Paulus du Pont) was an esteemed engraver. Dutch Master Peter Paul Rubens commissioned Pontius to reproduce many of his paintings, as did Anthony van Dyck. Pontius became a Master of the Antwerp Guild in 1626. This is from a series of portraits by van Dyck of famous painters and royalty.
